Description

Elderberry has a reputation as a “cold and flu” superfood. Elderberry fruit berries are reputed to have nearly 3 times the antioxidant value of cranberries and blueberries. They are rich in bioflavonoids, especially anthocyanin which are responsible for their deep purple colouring.

BGG’s Eldpro® Elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.) is extracted in Poland from elderberries cultivated locally and it contains 15% anthocyanins by HPLC (i.e., cyanidin and pelargonidin glycosides) and about 30% polyphenols (i.e., quercetin and its glycosides, rutin).

Study:

Test group took 3 capsules of Elderberry fruit extract per day (Each capsule 300mg) before travel for 10 days. The placebo group had a collective duration of 117 episode days; in comparison, the elderberry group had a significantly lower number of cold episode days (57, p = 0.05).Moreover, the symptom score in the placebo group over these days was 583, whereas in the elderberry group it was 247. The difference in symptom score between both groups was also significant (p = 0.02).
